The Story of Keith

Keith at PlayKeith Brintzenhoff was (and technically still is) a school teacher by profession. He is certified in elementary education and secondary social studies, experienced in German and Elementary/Middle School Music and Library Sciences. He taught PA German Language to preschoolers (Shaynah Kinnah Daycare,) mixed groups (Berks County YMCA,) and college (Prescott, Arizona.) And in 2005 he was also a professional actor!

He studied autoharp with some of the world's best, including Bryan Bowers, Bonnie Phipps, and Becky Blackely. He was consultant for the large size autoharp built by Folkcraft Instruments of Connecticut. He has researched the mountain dulcimer and its PA German connections, and discussed this with authors of the two important books on the subject.

He also plays guitar and old-time banjo. At Christmas he becomes the best (or worst) Belsnickel you ever saw. Whether by himself, in a duo, or with his band, he goes everywhere from senior citizens groups to fairs and festivals, both here and in Germany.

Keith was musical advisor for the Kutztown PA German Festival, as well as a performer. Other performances include Hershey Museum, Historic Schaefferstown, Der Dutch Peddler Homecoming (Ohio), Berks. County Heritage Festival, Lyons Fiddle Festival, Mayfair, the Mercer Museum, Reading Liederkranz, Landis Valley Farm Museum and Musikfest in Bethlehem.

The highlights include three tours in Germany and the 700th anniversary of Switzerland Fescht in his ancestral home town. Also included are many appearances on Radio and TV, both in the US and in Germany. Plus two tapes, a CD and music for various videos and films.

Keith's programs can be completely educational to completely entertaining. They can be discussion workshops, musical, PA German, kids, folklore, the Belsnickel, and various combinations. He performs a lot, sometimes by himself, sometimes with his wife, or a fiddle or banjo player, and sometimes with his band, The Toad Creek Ramblers.
